Hello August!

With all this sunshine after a somewhat rainy July, the Creston Valley Farmers’ Market is rolling into August with a little more pep in it’s step! Peak summer markets have a little bit of everything we love about Creston – good food, good company, great live music, and so much sunshine!

You may be heading off for the weekend for a much deserved camping trip up the lake, or maybe just a day spent chilling out by the river, but don’t miss the Creston Valley Farmers’ Market before heading out of town. As always, we are open from 9 until 1 every single Saturday (until Thanksgiving…but let’s not think that far ahead, yet) behind the Visitor Centre.

Stock your cooler with easy and delicious local produce perfect for snacking on the beach. This might include freshly picked cherries, cherry tomatoes, or sugar snap peas from Cartwheel Farms (who had quite the week of pea-picking recently). Sharing pieces of foccacia bread ripped right off the loaf from Cookville Community Farm would be a sure crowd pleaser, too. Or, something sweet from Flamenco Farms who never fails to bring tasty tarts and donuts baked fresh Saturday morning.

“This week has brought a proper onslaught of snap peas. Last Sunday’s harvest alone yielded 267 pounds of peas. Pea picking is a curious job – especially when it goes on and on. Even with hands moving quickly, it lulls you into a smooth rhythm. It is peaceful work.”
