September flew by as fast as the leaves have changed colour on the leaves. As the days fill with falling leaves, crisp weather, and a growing anticipation for the holiday season, the vendors of the Creston Valley Farmers’ Market are embracing this pivotal change of seasons in unique ways.
For Jo and Jeremy from Iron Skillet that means the reintroduction of their limited edition Pumpkin Pie Spice Blend. As always, this spice blend is made in small batches, hand blended, and uses organic ingredients. I’m OBSESSED.
I haven’t gone a day since Jo so generously gifted me a package of this rich and flavourful blend without mixing it into my morning oats or coffee. Try her Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe for a pleasant fall drink at home:
Iron Skillet’s Pumpkin Spice Latte
Add 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. of Iron Skillet’s pumpkin spice blend to 1/2 cup of milk.
Whisk and gently heat on stove or steam. Add to 1/2 cup of strong coffee or espresso.
Minna from Dragenfly Bags and Lenore from Aprons With Pizzaz will help you celebrate autumn and Halloween while practicing Covid manners with themed face masks. Karen of Cedar Frond Crochet has cozy, handmade ponchos and shawls for the range of temperatures a fall day brings.
You’ll see gourds, squash, and pumpkins at the stalls of many of our regular farmers, not to mention an increasing variety of apples and pears. Peaches are nearing the end of their season, so be sure to grab a box while they are still juicy and ripe.
Many other crops will be around until the first frost, and with a forecast similar to the one predicted for this Saturday, it looks like the cooler weather is taking its time! Currently, you’ll still be able to find some gorgeous local tomatoes and peppers for some late season canning if you haven’t had a chance yet.
