Gobble Gobble, Crestonites!

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and this year, the Creston Valley Farmers’ Market has been thankful for such a fantastic outdoor season. Here are a few of this year’s highlights:

  • April 28th Market – Our earliest outdoor market EVER. A small but mighty group of dedicated vendors kicked off the start of the market’s outdoor season.
  • Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program Expansion – The provincially funded FMNCP has expanded by $750,000 over the course of two years in 2018! With the increase in funding, communities across BC were able to provide lower income families, pregnant women, and seniors with an extra $6 in coupons to spend on healthy, local food every week. This was a win-win for our communities, farmers, and markets all around.
  • Red Bird Estate Winery joins the CVFM – We were so excited to welcome Red Bird Estate Winery to the market in mid-June. This is Creston’s 4th local winery and we are eager to see where the 2019 season takes them. Red Bird Estate Winery will be joining us for our last outdoor market and indoor markets closer to Christmas.
  • Brittany’s Flower Farm – As many of you know, Brenda with Wynndel Lavender decided to retire from retirement this season, leaving the market a little less colourful and a little less aromatic. In mid-July we were overjoyed to welcome local florist Brittany Tilling, to the market with her locally grown, hand picked flower bouquets. Be sure to pick up a
  • July 28 Market – Our largest market ever with 61 unique vendors!! Wow this day was packed to the brim with excitement. We had 30 Farm and Food vendors, 21 Artisans, 4 Wine & Spirits, 4 Community Booths, and live music featuring the ever talented Marybeth Stenhouse. Heartbeets Catering and the Peppered Pig Food Truck were also on site serving up some tasty tacos and mouthwatering sausages. Overall it was a sensory overload (in the best way) with so much to see, smell, listen to, and do!
  • Rapid Market Assessments – We ran a number of rapid market assessments this summer to collect valuable data on a range of customer attributes, such as origin, transportation methods, and dollars spent. This information is important when applying for grants and other community funding and can help us make positive adjustments at the market to better serve everyone involved.
  • The 100th Annual Creston Fall Fair Market – This was a very special Saturday for the entire a community, commemorating a n entire century of local food producers, artisans, musicians, and other local talent. Of course it was fitting that the market hosted its largest number of vendors to date, too!
  • October 6 Market – Now here we are at our last outdoor market. Keep reading for an exciting surprise we have for our loyal customers…
